Homeskoolin’ Bonus Collage, “Riverside Revival”

Chapters
00:00 - Guitar emersion
04:08 - Playing the '58

Notes
Yes, the planning is still in it’s infantile stages…but i can tell you that there is nothing short of “a movement” underfoot here in the windy streets of Nashville Tennessee.

There is an amazing new venue in east nashville that is built in a totally renovated old church called “Riverside Revival”.

It is being run by some dear friends and kindred musical spirits.
Among them Nick “The Chef” Govrik….my old band mate from Trigger Hippy.

There is definitely gonna be some crazy guitar related action taking place in this building in the not so distant future.

There is even talk of a full on “Nashville Guitar Immersion” program where select people can buy a first class ticket to the full hang and inside behind the scenes access to the community of players here.

We are not sure exactly what it is gonna be yet, but you can trust me on this one thing….Nicky G knows how to throw a fuckin bad ass party.

There is no doubt that whatever ends up happening is gonna be deeeee-luxe.

There is talk of a gig in late February to kick things off and get people acquainted with the venue….a gig with myself, Guthrie Trapp, Jack Ruch, dearest Jedd Hughes and some other guests….and we will working in some master class guitar repair workshops with Greg Voros and Gruhn Guitars.

Stay tuned for further details friends.

Notes
A look at one of my alltime favorite tunes. “Irene Wilde” by Ian Hunter off the 1980 live album “Welcome To The Club” featuring the genius lyrics of Ian Hunter and the absolutely perfect guitar playing of Mick Ronson.

If this video gets pulled for copyright reasons i totally get it…my only intentions are to turn you Homeskoolers on to a cool old song they may not have heard. "When I was just sixteen - I stood waiting for a dream - At barker street bus station every night When I tried to get it on - she just looked at me with scorn - my courage Turned to fear and I took flight

For those looks they seemed to say You ain't nuthin' - go away You're just some face in some crowd so I walked home and I vowed I'm gonna be somebody - someday

Her name was irene wilde - oh such beauty for a child When she started dating boys - I nearly died For I could not barely stand seeing anyone hold her hand I though I had to crawl away and hide In my mother's Sunday room I composed so many tunes They were all the same - just a frame - for her name, and just to say I'm gonna be somebody - someday

Wild as your name I soon left that country town I been around, I've seen some fame, seen some ups and I seen some downs Smile through your shock as you hear your name out loud It's that face in the crowd - i didn't dig it - i'm much too proud...

When I was just sixteen I stood waiting for a dream A barker street bus station non affair At the time it seemed so sad, but it didn't turn out bad If she hadn't turned me down I'd still be there You know I think most folks agree, a little put-down makes them see They ain't no chain - they're just a link and that's why she made me think I'm gonna be somebody - be somebody - be somebody - someday"

Homeskoolin’ Bonus “Bridge Over Troubled Junior” (Music City Bridge Stud Finder)

Chapters
00:00 - Intro and basic install of new bridge
15:53 - Intonating the new bridge
22:39 - Demonstation of what the old original bridge sounded like for comparison

Notes
Ok guys, this video could conceivably be extremely boring to some "casual viewers", so it comes with a warning.

Unless you are interested in a 23 minute video of what a DRASTIC improvement swapping out the original bridge of an old 50s Les Paul Junior with a new Music City Bridge Stud Finder bridge makes, do NOT watch this.

This video is ONLY intended for the truly hardcore vintage guitar nerds out there…i repeat…DO NOT watch this unless you are a total vintage guitar nerd.

There are 3 segments…
1) intro and basic install of new bridge (
0:00 to 15:52)
2) intonating the new bridge (
15:53 to 22:38)
3) demonstation of what the old original bridge sounded like for comparison (
22:39 to end)

if you want one of these check these bad boys out for yourself click here

Notes
Back in the homeland after a long long journey, Larry recalls some of the highs and lows of the last few crazy days…the Session Man Abroad if you will….if you must….

Very sincere thank you to all of you for supporting the show…Uncle Larry’s small but mighty army is slowly approaching 70,000 members….and believe me, i know how hard it is to make the commitment of clicking on a video of an old guy teaching guitar when there are so many “shorts” on youtube of hot girls wearing yoga pants.

I appreciate all the kind words and all the kind donations…i truly hope that you all are learning things and that these videos help shine some light on the madness of the music business.

Mostly i hope they inspire all you people out there to accomplish the nearly impossible dream all musicians share….the dream where we ask the universe to provide us “a living” solely from playing an instrument.

Heres the tip jar links if you want to donate

Homeskoolin’ Bonus “Soundcheck Pt 2”

Chapters
00:00 - Soundcheck (electric) / Magic Man

Notes
Sure its a little hungover and sloppy, but this is a pretty good illustration of why Uncle Larry doesn’t use Kempers and Fractals and all that modeling horseshit. He likes it loud and raunchy, that land where the speakers and the pickups are united in total solidarity.

Homeskoolin’ Bonus Jam “Remember When Songs Had One Chord?”

Chapters
00:00 - Slow, soulful playing

Notes
Filmed late last night after getting home from a full day of sessioneering. Some of the harmonic possibilities available while just “pedaling” on a simple one chord motif. Also an example of the “claw”right hand technique we should all know, where you select only the strings you want to hear with your individual fingers.

Oh, and this is the best 70’s Les Paul i have personally ever seen…i usually do NOT go for any 70’s paul but this one has some magic. Picked it up in a trade recently…’71 custom, all there except for the hideous gold speed knobs that are currently on it..but don’t worry, there WILL be witch hats.

Homeskoolin’ Bonus “Theory's Ways”

Chapters
00:00 - Interesting passage

Notes
I originally titled this "Progathon" but a Homeskooler named Gb Seventy3 pointed out that "Theory's Ways" is clearly what it SHOULD be called...thanks for that my friend.

See, you guys think I’m a “prog freak”…but here’s the thing you don’t understand. The ONLY prog i was ever into was just these three bands…Genesis, Yes and Jethro Tull….the rest of it i honestly couldn’t care less about.

Of course I respect all the others (like ELP, King Crimson, Gentle Giant etc etc etc) but i was never into it.

Here’s a little thing i wrote a loooong time ago…I’ve had the A and B sections of this tune floating around in my head since i was in my early 30’s (i remember writing it in some hotel room on the road in the 90’s)…i just added the C section on today so i could tart it out for you guys.

It doesn’t look all that hard, but it’s EXTREMELY difficult to play….a lesson in itself of letting strings ring clearly whilst fretting other notes…. In fact if anyone out there can pull this off convincingly note for note i JUST MIGHT even send then a nice comfy Homeskoolin t shirt on the house haha

Thanks for watching and supporting the channel friends…oh and fuck off Axel

Homeskoolin’ Bonus Round, “Dog Ears & Dog Years”

Chapters
00:00 - Rockin' the P-90s
03:50 - '55 Gibson Les Paul TV Junior

Notes
Hello friends….just thought you guys might get a late nite kick outta the tone genarated by this gnarly old P-90 that has recently floated across my transom (hello Janine).

I truly wish this beat up old gig warrior from a distant world could talk….i wonder what this student model golden era Gibson has witnessed in it’s life….

i tried to ask it, but it just stared at me, mocking me with it’s stately limed mahogany countenance.

To be continued….
